Dr.
Scott R. Gibbs is the founder of the Brain and NeuroSpine Clinic of Missouri, LLC and is also Director of the Southeast Missouri Hospital's Brain and Spine Center, both
located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Through his leadership, Southeast
Missouri Hospital is increasingly being recognized as the new center for
neurological excellence and technology in the central USA. Dr. Gibbs is also on staff at the Saint Francis Medical Center.
Dr. Gibbs earned a Bachelor and Master of Arts Degree in Biological
Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1985 and 1989,
respectively.
He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of
Medicine in 1991. Dr. Gibbs completed his internship in General
Surgery in 1992 and a residency in Neurosurgery in 1997, both at University
Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Missouri.
He received his Board Certification from The American Board of
Neurological Surgery in 2002. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Gibbs enjoys writing and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Year
Book
of Neurology and Neurosurgery for many years. He is also a noted author and
public speaker, traveling worldwide to audiences both young and old. Dr. Gibbs was awarded the Samuel P.W. Black Prize
for Excellence in Neurosurgery in 1991.
Dr. Gibbs is also the founder of the International Brain Foundation,
a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting brain awareness,
education programs, and furthering research to cure neurological
diseases and disorders. Dr. Gibbs also envisioned and oversaw the
creation of the Brain Balloon, a 9-story tall, anatomically
correct hot air balloon in the shape of a human brain. The Brain Balloon
travels all over the country, literally raising awareness of the
importance of making good decisions, seeking high purpose, and the Brain
Balloon helps other non-profit neurological organizations to capture
attention to their respective causes.
In his spare time, Dr. Gibbs and his wife Barbie enjoy spending time
with their children.
In October of 2010 Dr. Gibbs was selected as one of the Heartland's Best Medical Professionals by the local CBS Affiliate KFVS 12. Click here to see the video of this special surprise event.
